Frigate “Friedrich Wilhelm zu Pferde”
A typical Dutch two-decker, built in Pillau by master Pickenhering – 1680-1681.
Displacement: 900 tons, armament: 54 cannons. Crew and soldiers: 200-250 people.
In 1684, the ship was purchased by Elector Friedrich Wilhelm as the flagship of the Brandenburg fleet. On July 25, 1692, the ship departed from Emden, passing through Scotland on its way to Guinea, under the command of Captain Jean le Sage. At this time, Brandenburg was at war with France. The frigate engages in battle with French ships and defeats them. In 1693, the frigate crosses the Atlantic Ocean with 700 slaves on board towards the West Indies. On the return journey, on October 28, the ship reaches the shores of Gibraltar, where it is attacked by French ships. Captain Jean le Sage is killed, and the ship is set on fire.
The Elector is depicted on the stern’s horse-shell – from which the name of the ship originates (Friedrich Wilhelm on horseback).
The model is made in 1:100 scale.
The hull, deck, and rigging are made of pear wood. The figures and wood carvings – from boxwood. The cannons and fittings are made of bronze.
